Jay Allen and Nancy Bennett designed the Wisconsin School for the Deaf (WSD) sign for the 2015 Walldog Meet in Delavan Wisconsin. Jay and Nancy invited me and 5 other sign painters to be a part of their team in Delavan. Over the course of four days we projected and traced the lay out; painted the background, the scrolls, and flair; and then we allocated the lettering and pictorial work amongst each other. Throughout our stay we had the honor of painting with many students, faculty, and alumni of the WSD. It was a humbling experience and demonstrated that art has the power to, not only, bring people together, but to be a means for people to communicate with each other. Despite the language, American Sign Language and English, and cultural barriers, Deaf and Hearing culture, we were able to make friendships and connect with each other through the sign.
